Frank Lampard believes that Willian is one of the finest attacking players in the Premier League and has suggested that he should be given more playing time by Antonio Conte at Chelsea.
The Brazilian was Chelsea’s standout performer on an otherwise disappointing afternoon for the west London side, as the Blues played out a goalless draw with Norwich City in the third round of the FA Cup on Saturday.
Willian was named as the man of the match for his fine display but he was unable to help Conte’s men make the breakthrough at Carrow Road.
The attacker has found his first team opportunities at Stamford Bridge to be somewhat restricted this season, with the 29-year-old having only started 11 of Chelsea’s Premier League games so far.
Willian has scored seven goals and made six assists in all competitions for the west London side so far this term.
And Lampard was full of praise for the Brazilian after Chelsea’s disappointing goalless draw with Norwich on Saturday.
Speaking to BT Sport after the game, Lampard said: “Willian was the player who started to manage to get on the ball.
“When he stands you up and pushes it past you, he’s one of the best in the Premier League at doing that.
“He’s a player who when he’s in front of you, he puts fear into you. And that’s what Chelsea need, they need urgency, someone to get a shot away. It never really materialised outside of him [against Norwich].”
Chelsea are now preparing for the first leg of their League Cup semi-final clash against Arsenal at Stamford Bridge on Wednesday night.
The two London sides played out a 2-2 draw at The Emirates last Wednesday.
