CHELSEA are likely to complete the signing of Edin Dzeko ‘in a matter of hours’, according to transfer guru Tancredi Palmeri.
Express Sport understand Dzeko has been thrashing out personal terms and is set to agree a deal worth £140,000 a week, compared to his current £80,000 in Italy.
And Italian journalist Palmeri believes an announcement on a deal is immiment.
Palmeri tweeted: “Dzeko-Chelsea: should be a matter of hours. Roma considering if to wait first for Sampdoria-Roma game tomorrow.”
Chelsea are now likely to throw Dzeko straight into their team amid concerns about the form of record signing Alvaro Morata.
His arrival will come as a double deal with Roma with Dzeko and Brazilian left-back Emerson Palmieri arriving for a package which could rise to £52m with bonuses.
He is understood to have been reassured by Chelsea boss Antonio Conte that he will not be seen just as back-up to £58m Morata, who joined from Real Madrid in the summer.
The 25-year-old has failed to score in six outings and Conte described his sending off against Norwich last Wednesday after picking up a second yellow card for dissent as “stupid”.
Dzeko, 31, has thrived in Italy since he joined Roma from Manchester City in August 2015.
He has been directly involved in 64 Serie A goals – 46 goals, 18 assists – and privately is believed to be shocked Roma are willing to let him go.
But although his overall record my be excellent, Dzeko has been having a lean time of late.
Since scoring twice against Chelsea in Rome in the Champions League, he has managed just two goals in 17 appearances.
Dzeko’s arrival casts even more doubt about the future of the Blues striker Michy Batshuayi, who is wanted by Sevilla.
