Chelsea striker search: Andy Carroll, Edin Dzeko, Fernando Llorente, Michy Batshuayi and more

Michy Batshuayi may have finally snapped Chelsea’s 5-hour goal drought on Wednesday with a nice poached finish, and he may even play on Saturday thanks to the suspensions of both Álvaro Morata and Pedro, but the young Belgian striker still looks on his way out of the club on a loan move to Sevilla or West Ham or perhaps even Borussia Dortmund (but probably not).

Along that line, Chelsea’s striker search continues apace. Andy Carroll seems to be the front-runner and only non-tenuous link at this point, though the Mirror point out that so far, West Ham have not received a formal bid yet, loan or otherwise, from Chelsea. Well of course they haven’t, it’s not transfer deadline day yet! That’s the only day you can sign players, right? (Sit down and hush up, Ross…)

Despite the lack of that formality, all rumors seem to be pointing Carroll in Chelsea’s direction, and that notion is getting underlined by the big striker apparently refusing to train. That’s what the Hammers are thinking in any case, after they were unable to confirm Carroll’s claimed ankle injury. Hmmm…

Meanwhile, in deeper rumor-lands, we find another Chelsea-Roma transfer link, this time for striker Edin Dzeko.

This one sounds cool since Dzeko, as we know, does tend to score a lot now that he’s graduated into an actual football player from a lamppost, but while Roma would sell when they could get rid of less important parts to satisfy FFP is anyone’s guess.

It should be noted that this rumor comes from Premium Sport, which is just about the worst big outlet in Italy.

Less dubiously sourced but even less sensible is the rumor from The Independent’s Miguel Delaney that Chelsea and Conte are going to try for Fernando Llorente a third time in thirteen months.

This is surely a non-starter, considering he rejected Chelsea just six months ago precisely to join Spurs, who, oh by the way, simply don’t do business with Chelsea. Let’s try a different rumor next time, Miguel.
