The long search for a striker is over for Chelsea after they agree a fee with Arsenal for the transfer of Olivier Giroud to Stamford Bridge.
After a long month of searching Chelsea Football Club have finally agreed a deal to bolster their frontline. According to reports they have struck a £15 million deal with Arsenal for the purchase of forward Olivier Giroud.
The 31-year-old Frenchman has been a peripheral figure at the Emirates after the arrival of Alexandre Lacazette last summer. Now with the impending arrival of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang from Borussia Dortmund the door is closing on the striker’s time with the Gunners.
In his six season at Arsenal Giroud has scored 105 goals in 252 matches. Not quite at the elite level that Arsenal fans were hoping for but a proven Premier League marksman nonetheless. The move is dependent on the Aubameyang transfer completing in the next 48 hours.

Chelsea have been desperate to add another goalscoring forward to their frontline since the summer. Alvaro Morata has shouldered the burden exclusively this season. That pressure and overuse has seen his form dip dramatically in the last few months.
Giroud would be a tried and trusted option who could step in to the exact same role that Morata fills at Stamford Bridge.
Hopes of signing an elite talent like Andrea Belotti quickly vanished for Antonio Conte and the Chelsea hierarchy in this window. That forced the Blues to look at Premier League target men such as Andy Carroll, Ashley Barnes and Peter Crouch.
Giroud’s availability is decent compromise for Chelsea. However for Arsenal fans it continues the recent trend of their players leaving for rivals. Alexis Sanchez, Theo Walcott and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain have all moved to Premier League rivals in recent months.
