Chelsea pulled out of the race to sign Alexis Sanchez from Arsenal as they are unwilling to match the forward’s wage demands and pay his agent’s fees, according to reports.
Manchester United are now favourites to sign the Chile international, with reports claiming that the forward has now reached an agreement with Jose Mourinho’s side.
United are willing to make Sanchez the highest-paid player in the Premier League with a £400,000-a-week deal, and are prepared to pay a £30 million transfer fee to Arsenal.
Manchester City came close to signing Sanchez for £60m in the summer and were expected to complete a deal this month.
But the Premier League leaders have now cooled their interest as they are refusing to match United’s offer in terms of contract and transfer fee.
Chelsea, meanwhile, were also interested in signing the 29-year-old this month.
But according to The Evening Standard, the Premier League champions are not prepared to match Sanchez’s wage demands.
The Sun also reports that Chelsea are not willing to pay the £5m fees which have been demanded by the player’s representatives.
Antonio Conte had urged Chelsea to win the race to sign Sanchez this month, but the Italian is now set to miss out on the Chilean.
‘I think it is a good investment,’ said the Chelsea manager.
‘We are talking about a top player and you can buy him for a price not so high.
‘The amount is around £20million. Maybe a normal price for Alexis Sanchez is £80-90m. This is my opinion.’
