‘Most underrated’, ‘Outstanding’ – Chelsea Fans loved the performance of Saturday’s unlikely hero

Chelsea made it eight wins from their last ten English Premier League games with a hard fought 1-0 win over Southampton at Stamford Bridge on Saturday.

In a tight game, Marcos Alonso’s superb free-kick was enough to win all three points, which put them level with Manchester United in the table ahead of their match against West Bromwich Albion on Sunday.

Alonso has faced criticism this season for perceived lacklustre performances but was arguably Chelsea’s man of the match on Saturday, providing a fantastic outlet on the Blues’ left hand side.

Supporters will be hoping their side can maintain their good form over the festive period with a League Cup quarter-final this week ahead of matches against Everton, Brighton and Stoke.

Man City may be forging their own path ahead at the top of the table, but ensuring a top four place is a must and Chelsea can ill afford any more slip ups like the one last week against West Ham United.

Fans took to Twitter to pay tribute to Saturday’s goalscorer…
