Chelsea fans here are growing in concern, with things taking a turn for the worse just as they looked like hitting top-form.
The defending champions haven’t managed to start this Premier League season in the same fashion as last year, after a combination of injuries and inconsistency has halted the Blues chances of catching the unbeaten Manchester City.
Indeed, with a two-legged tie against world giants Barcelona coming up next in the Champions League, things don’t look like getting any easier for Conte’s side.
However, with a Champions League spot becoming the only league aspiration from here on into the end of the season, it provides an extra incentive for the European competition, which could result in Antonio Conte looking to get rid of any dead-weight, in order to make room for some world-class additions in January.
One player in particular who’s seen a rough time of things at Stamford Bridge is Belgian Michy Batshuayi, after failing to become a regular in the Chelsea starting line-up under the Italian.
Having almost scored as many as the influential Alvaro Morata this season, fans here in the Tavern find it bizarre that Conte would want to see the back of a player with so much proven quality, that still has the potential to grow.
But having made his intentions pretty clear on the striker after wanting to sell the 24-year-old back in the summer months, the January transfer window will inevitably see the end of Batshuayi’s time at Stamford Bridge.
So, with the Belgian on his way out, here’s a look at TWO strikers Roman Abramovic should look at bringing to the club.
The Italian has written his name in the stars this season, having become one of the most prolific strikers in all of the European leagues, in what has been a remarkable season for the Lazio striker.
Chelsea were known to be keen on signing the striker as they often are when anyone is banging in the goals, as they looked to appease Antonio Conte who hasn’t had the best of relationships with the club’s board.
Although reports suggested that Ciro Immobile and his agent rubbished reports of a move to the Bridge after signing a contract in October, it’s looking as if his current side are set to miss out on Champions League football once again, meaning that Abramovich could re-visit the possibility in January, as he may live to regret his choice with a lack of Champions League football halting the strikers progress.
So having worked with the striker during his time as head coach of the Italian national-side, Conte is aware of the forward’s talents, so knowing they’re getting a proven product is vital with no room for any time-wasters.
The German international has enjoyed his breakthrough season at current club RB Leipzig in the Bundesliga, on his way to becoming a regular in the German national team at the young age of 21-years-old.
Reports in the Express suggested that Timo Werner would be interested in a Premier League move, with Chelsea being one of the preferred destinations for the striker.
Already into double-figures, as he nears the 15 goal-mark with his goal-scoring tally, while accumulating a number of assists in the process, it’s made Alvaro Morata’s ‘impressive’ start in the Chelsea shirt look shoddy.
With the striker already proving his worth in the Champions League and scoring freely in a tough German division, it look’s as if Werner would be an upgrade on Batshuayi if they can draw him to the English capital.
Blues fans, thoughts?
