Antonio Conte has made no secret of the fact that he thinks David Luiz may not have a future at Chelsea, and right before the January transfer window, Conte has refused to rule out an exit for Luiz – or another one of his players.
Conte has claimed that Luiz needs to work harder in training but reports from sources close to the club suggested the issue was more over Luiz questioning Conte’s tactics after the struggles against Roma than anything he’d done on the field or training ground.
Luiz was welcomed back into the fold by Conte yet has not featured as much for the Blues, and Andreas Christensen has certainly grabbed his chance to impress with both hands.
Standard Sport report Conte was asked about the transfer window and if Luiz or anyone else could leave and said: “I think this moment is very early to talk about this topic. This is not right. We are in December. There is one month to play.
“I think now it’s very important to be focused and go game-by-game, to put all ourselves for Chelsea and try to do our best. Then when it will be the moment of transfer market, we can start to speak about this.”
Luiz has been linked with Real Madrid, and would have no shortage of suitors should he decide to leave Chelsea, especially after his performances last season in the Premier League and he would also command a good fee that Chelsea could then use to reinvest in their squad – something that Antonio Conte has spoken about time and time again since getting the Blues back into the Champions League and facing more games.
