As reported by Football.london, Chelsea superstar Eden Hazard has committed his future to the club in response to questions about interest from Spanish giants Real Madrid.
What’s the story?
Given Hazard’s form in the English Premier League over the last few seasons, it’s natural that the biggest clubs across the continent would be interested in his services.
That inevitably leads to rumours and questions about his future but the Belgian international has been unequivocal with his immediate career intentions this week, he wants to stay at Chelsea and win trophies.
Football.london report that in response to questions about Real Madrid interest, Hazard said:
“Maybe one day but for the moment I’m with Chelsea. I am just happy with Chelsea. I have a lot to do with Chelsea so I will see in the future but now I am just focused on Chelsea and I want to win a lot of things with Chelsea.”
Reported by The Daily Star to be earning £200,000 a week at Stamford Bridge, he is one of the corner stones of Antonio Conte’s title-winning team and it’ll be pleasing for fans to hear he is dismissing any question of leaving.
If Chelsea are to progress and build on last season’s English Premier League title win then keeping performers like Eden Hazard at the club is absolutely vital.
The Belgian’s contribution has been immense, scoring 17 goals and providing seven assists last season alone, part of a 141 direct goal contribution total in 262 appearances.
It’s natural interest comes in the wake of such a contribution and while Chelsea will always be trying to bring players to the club themselves, just as important is keeping a focus on their current stars and ensuring they are happy.
Thankfully for the club, Hazard appears to be exactly that right now.
Gary Neville: This proves Chelsea squad still responding to Antonio Conte
Gary Neville believes Chelsea’s 1-0 win against Manchester United proves defending champions are still responding to Antonio Conte.
The title holders have endured a tough start to the season following surprise defeats by Burnley and Crystal Palace.
Premier League leaders Manchester City were 1-0 winners at Stamford Bridge in September after Kevin De Bruyne scored a second-half winner against his former club.
Chelsea appeared to be struggling defensively after conceding 13 goals in six games ahead of the visit of ex-boss Jose Mourinho and his Manchester United team.
However, the return of N’Golo Kante was brought back into the Chelsea team last weekend and the France international helped the Blues to secure a 1-0 win against the Red Devils.
Summer signing Alvaro Morata scored a 55th-minute winner to seal three points, while 21-year-old defender Andreas Christensen impressed at centre-half.
While Conte has fallen out with Brazilian defender and Roman Abramovich favourite David Luiz over the past week or so, Neville believes Chelsea’s performance against Manchester United proves the players are still with the manager.
“This club can create madness out of nothing. When players are against a manager, we can see it,” Neville told the Gary Neville podcast on Sky Sports.
“Against Spurs and Man United, they responded. They responded with a performance that shows the players are still responding to the manager. It was a really good performance.”
Chelsea are in fourth place in the Premier League table and nine points behind current leaders Manchester City after 11 games.
The Blues signed six players in the summer transfer window.
