Imagine Lionel Messi playing in Chelsea colours? Or in the colours of any Premier League team? Well, Roman Abramovich is working behind the scenes to make this a possibility, if you believe OK Diario journalist Eduardo Inda.

Impossible right? So we think. But Eduardo Inda, who is the owner of OkDiario.com, and who was once an editor for both El Mundo and Marca newspapers, claims Messi considered leaving Barcelona. According to Eduardo Inda, Messi had many offers which included one from Chelsea, and a couple of China and Europe.

The offer from China would have seen Messi earn as much as €150 million, which would have been more than what Paul Pogba, Eden Hazard, Cristiano Ronaldo and Neymar earn each year combined.

Eduardo Inda went on to add that Messi will most likely stay with Barcelona but that he was considering moving away from the Catalan club and the La Liga after the 2018 World Cup. It is however interesting to hear Roman Abramovich would be interested in going all out to sign Messi should the opportunity arise.

He is certainly a signing that I would like to see happen. For me it doesn’t matter with which club he signs for but Messi in the Premier League would get massive buzz among the fans of the league.

And Abramovich has the money to pull off such a signing. Messi may be 30, but he still has what it takes to play at the highest level for the next four years or more, and his signing would certainly have made sense for Chelsea both on and off the field. Messi reportedly earns €565,000 a week with Barca at the moment, which Chelsea, as well as Manchester City and Manchester United, can all afford.

Although Eduardo Inda claims Messi is now more likely to remain with Barcelona than leave, I am hoping Messi will change his mind in 2018 and consider a move away from Spain. Should that happen, Paris Saint-Germain would certainly be in the running for his signature, but hopefully he would prefer a move to the Premier League rather than going to the French league – I am allowed to dream, right?

1st January Deal? Chelsea Ready To Sign Brazilian In £58.5m

Although Marcos Alonso has done well in the left wing back position for Chelsea since he signed for them in 2016 for an estimated £24 million, this has not stopped Chelsea from getting linked with the signing of another big money left back.

According to Calciomercato.com Chelsea are ready to spend as much as €65 million (£58.5m) in order to sign Alex Sandro from Juventus. The Italian media outlet reckons the Brazilian is Antonio Conte and Chelsea’s number one target this winter.

The Brazilian was first linked with a move to Chelsea while he was at Porto and the Blues have still not given up hope of signing him even now that he is at Juventus. According to reports Chelsea made offers for him last summer but Juventus remained determined to keep their prized asset. The Italian champions are even said to be ready to offer him a new contract which will potentially fend off the likes of Chelsea, but with nothing signed so far, the Blues will believe they have a chance of signing Sandro.

Chelsea could take advantage of the player’s contractual situation at Juventus, but for a back up, the £58.5m fee the Premier League champions are reportedly ready to spend, is way too much in my opinion. Chelsea made a mistake selling Ryan Bertrand to Southampton and I believe if they want a back up to Alonso they should go for the Southampton starter.

Bertrand wouldn’t come cheap as Southampton are not known to sell cheap, but he would certainly not cost as much as £58.5m. Signing Bertrand may not be as glamorous as signing Alex Sandro but with Alonso already in the team, there is absolutely no point, well in my view, to sign Alex Sandro. Alonso can do the job and Bertrand would make a decent back up.
