Frank Lampard wants to see Chelsea bring in a new striker in the January transfer window.
The Blues are likely to be linked with a host of players in the coming weeks as the mid-season window approaches and offers Antonio Conte a chance to bolster his squad.
Alvaro Morata has been in good form up front for Chelsea this season since signing for the Blues from Real Madrid back in the summer transfer window.
However, the west London side also opted to let Diego Costa leave the club in the summer and former Chelsea star Lampard believes that the Blues could do with signing a striker to back up Morata in the new year.
Asked what he thinks Chelsea need to do in the January transfer window, Lampard told BT Sport: “I think they need to add to their squad.
“If you’re looking at Alvaro Morata as your out-and-out striker… Michy Batshuayi’s come in and had moments where he’s scored but it seems Antonio Conte doesn’t trust him.
“So I think maybe a back-up striker [is needed in January].
“They also need to maybe strengthen the midfield at some point, although that may be next summer.
“You have to keep strengthening because everybody else is.”
Chelsea return to Premier League action on Saturday evening with a crunch clash against Liverpool at Anfield.
The Blues head into the game fresh from having booked their place in the last 16 of the Champions League with a comfortable 4-0 win over Qarabag on Wednesday night.
Chelsea are currently in third place in the Premier League table and nine points behind leaders Manchester City after 12 games of the new campaign.
