Chelsea squad to face Swansea revealed as Blues lose three players to injury

Antonio Conte will be without David Luiz for the Swansea City clash as Chelsea bid to make it six games unbeaten in the Premier League.

The Brazilian defender, who has recently lost his place in the first team to Andreas Christensen, was ruled out with a knee injury with no indication of when he could return.

“I can tell you the players not available,” Conte said at his press conference on Tuesday.

“Luiz for a knee problem, [Charly] Musonda, [Michy] Batshuayi and Kenedy are trying to find the right form to be back.”

Asked about a return date for Luiz, the Italian added: “I must be honest at the moment it is difficult for me to answer.

“It will be up to the doctor to assess it and take the best decision. I don’t know how long he will be out.”

Chelsea head into the Swansea clash knowing they must take advantage of their kind upcoming schedule, as they look to close the gap on leaders Manchester City. The defending champions are third in the table and 11 points behind Pep Guardiola’s side.

But in order to keep his squad fresh, Conte revealed he could hand rests to some of his key players, including Eden Hazard.

“I think that every game you have to try to make the best decision to try and protect every player, every player. For sure, to try to… I’d like to start every game with the best players but, at the same time, this is not possible. Otherwise I don’t protect them. I take a risk I think is not right to take,” Conte explained.

“Especially because the season has just started and then we have a long season. For this reason, I have to try to protect every player.

“At the same time, it’s not simple, not easy to leave great players (out) to rest. But I have to do this. I want the best for the team, the best for the players. I try to protect my team and my players.

“But Eden is an important player, and he’s used to facing this type of situation.”

Provisional Chelsea squad: Courtois, Caballero, Ampadu, Rudiger, Moses, Azpilicueta, Christensen, Cahill, Zappacosta, Fabregas, Drinkwater, Kante, Bakayoko, Alonso, Willian, Hazard, Pedro, Morata
