Chelsea defender’s injury worse than feared as he is surprise omission for Brazil game

The teams for England’s friendly game against Brazil have just come out and Gary Cahill is not in the England side.

The defender missed the game against Germany last week with a back injury, but told the press he would be fit for tonight after training as normal over the last few days.

Instead, Joe Gomez has come into the side to start in his place.

This is a worrying development for Chelsea fans, who lost N’Golo Kante for a month in the last break, and this time round have seen a variety of players – including Cahill – pick up knocks and problems as the fortnight has gone on.

Luckily the Blues are well stocked at centre back at the moment, with Cahill ably deputised by Antonio Rudiger, or the dropped David Luiz.

Andreas Christensen, fresh from making his breakthrough into the Blues team, started for Denmark and scoreda goal in their rout of Ireland.

Eden Hazard sends message to Chelsea’s young players

Eden Hazard has admitted that he does his best to try and be a role model to the younger players at Chelsea.

Hazard has developed into one of the Premier League’s finest attacking talents since moving to the west London club from Lille back in 2012.

The 26-year-old has won two Premier League titles since his move to the west London club and also won the PFA player of the year award in the 2014-15 campaign.

The Blues are aiming to defend their Premier League title this season after having lifted the trophy under Antonio Conte last term.

Hazard is now one of the more senior members in Chelsea’s squad, and the playmaker admits that he does try to set a good example for the clubs’s younger players.

Speaking to Chelsea magazine, Belgium star Hazard said: “You need to show the right mentality to the younger players, because they are looking up to you.

“When I was 16 at Lille, I was watching the big guys, thinking, ‘Oh, this guy does this in training; that guy never comes in late.’

“So, yeah, we are examples. You need to show the right motivation, the right ambition.”

Hazard will be expecting to feature for Chelsea when the Blues return to Premier League action on Saturday with a trip to the Hawthorns to take on West Bromwich Albion.

The Blues, who beat Manchester United 1-0 before the international break, are currently fourth in the Premier League table and nine points behind leaders Manchester City after 11 games of the new campaign.
