In the summer, Chelsea were strongly linked with a move for Bayern Munich star Robert Lewandowski as a replacement for Atletico Madrid-bound Diego Costa but a transfer never materialised.
That being said, those rumours have resurfaced once again.
According to Don Balon, Bayern Munich are ready to sell the Poland international striker next summer with Inter Milan captain Mauro Icardi lined up as his replacement, and both Chelsea and Manchester United want to bring him to the Premier League.
It’s believed that Lewandowski is eager for a new challenge and will ask to leave Bayern in the summer with the Premier League or Real Madrid his preferred destinations.
The 29-year-old is behind only Lionel Messi and Luis Suarez in the goalscoring charts since the start of the 2015/16 season in Europe’s top five leagues and is still regarded as a world-class centre-forward.
Chelsea themselves brought in Alvaro Morata from Real Madrid in the summer and he’s hit the ground running at Stamford Bridge which has attracted interest from PSG.
Whether Chelsea or Manchester United could be tempted into a move for Lewandowski in the summer remains to be seen.
