Antonio Conte makes David Luiz decision for Chelsea’s clash with West Brom

Antonio Conte is willing to bring David Luiz back into the fold for Chelsea’s trip to the Hawthorns to take on West Brom on Saturday, according to reports.

Conte and Luiz had a high-profile bust up before the international break that saw the Brazilian axed from the matchday squad entirely for their Premier League clash with Manchester United.

Fortunately for Conte, his decision paid dividends, with Chelsea picking up a 1-0 victory – secured thanks to Alvaro Morata’s second-half header – while Luiz watched from the stands.

But according to the Evening Standard, Conte is ready to forgive and forget and Luiz is in contention not just to return to the matchday squad, but to start against West Brom.

His case has been boosted by his omission from the Brazilian national team, giving him two full weeks of training at Chelsea under Conte’s watch.

Meanwhile, both Andreas Christensen and teenager Ethan Ampadu, who replaced him the starting XI and squad respectively, have been away on international duty with Denmark and Wales.

Christensen especially has been involved in two physically and emotionally draining matches as Denmark booked their place at the World Cup by beating the Republic of Ireland.

In the meantime, Luiz has impressed Conte with his attitude and application in training, and appears to have gone some way to getting back into the Italian manager’s good books.

Conte and Luiz’s relationship is reported to have been strained since September, though came to a head after the humiliating 3-0 defeat away to Roma in the Champions League.

Luiz is believed to have asked for Gary Cahill to move from his usual left-sided role in the back three, with disastrous consequences, though his fall out with Conte never came close to matching the bust-up the Italian had with Diego Costa.
