Alvaro Morata believes Chelsea can start to think about winning the Premier League title again if the Blues beat Manchester United at Stamford Bridge on Sunday.
The defending Premier League champions are lacking confidence following a 3-0 loss to Serie A giants AS Roma in the Champions League group stage on Tuesday night.
Chelsea have conceded 13 times in their last six games in the Premier League to raise serious concerns about their ability to challenge for the title this term.
Manchester City eased to 1-0 victory over Chelsea at Stamford Bridge at the end of September following Kevin De Bruyne’s second-half winner against his former club.
Chelsea have also lost to Burnley and Crystal Palace this season to leave Antonio Conte’s men nine points behind current leaders Manchester City after 10 games.
Summer signing Morata is optimistic Chelsea can beat Manchester United in their top-of-the-table clash on Sunday and rekindle their ailing title challenge.
“It’s one of the best Premier League matches and we know the importance of this game,” Morata told Metro.
“It’s a very important game for the club, for the coach and for us the players.
“We want to win but this match especially because if we take the three points we have the opportunity to be there and near Manchester City and United.
“It’s important for us because we’re in November and we’ve got a lot of time and a lot of points to play and if we win and perform well we can think about the title.”
Chelsea won the Premier League title with two games to spare last season in Conte’s first campaign in charge.
The Blues have won the Premier League crown in two of the past three seasons under Jose Mourinho and then Conte.
The west London side lost to Arsenal in the FA Cup final back in May.
