Chelsea director Michael Emenalo in Bucharest
It’s long been established that manager Antonio Conte doesn’t conduct the transfer business at Stamford Bridge.
The deals are instead managed by Michael Emenalo and Marina Granovskaia.
Emenalo, 52, is the technical director at Chelsea. He’ll celebrate 10 years at the club in October.
Since he joined the Blues in 2007, Chelsea have scooped up eight major trophies. It’s also true that Chelsea’s academy is now comfortably the most successful in the country.
Emenalo has played a part in that success through his direct involvement in recruitment.
Emenalo at Steaua FCSB v Dinamo
Last weekend Emenalo turned up at the biggest match of the season in Romania.
The Chelsea director watched Steaua FCSB take on Dinamo in the Bucharest derby.
According to reports in the Romanian media, Emenalo was invited to the game of behalf of Steaua’s powerful ruling family, the Becalis.
Indeed, Emenalo was pictured inside the stadium talking to Giovani Becali.
And which players was he there to see?
Steaua’s ‘golden triplets’: Florinel Coman, Dennis Man and Florinel Tanase.
Gigi Becali wants ‘Kylian Mbappe’ money
Before the Dinamo match, Gigi Becali told the media about Steaua FCSB ‘s best three players:
Florinel Coman, Dennis Man and Florin Tănase are the players who the scouts will watch, but I won’t sell them now.
I’ll give them over two years. They are the golden triple at Steaua. I’m going to ask for termination clauses like (Kylian) Mbappe (has).
While Becali may be hoping those players one day reach the level of Mbappe, that seems a long way off right now.
As for Emenalo, he only gave the following quotes of GSP about why he was at the game:
From my standpoint, I can not divulge details of my work or comment on another league in another country.
However, I can tell you I enjoyed the experience, I liked the fact that both teams played to win and that there were many young players in the derby.
My reception in your country was excellent.
For the record, FCSB won the derby 1-0. They are second in the table, four points behind CFR Cluj after 12 rounds of the season.
Impressive Chelsea youngsters beat Atletico Madrid
Chelsea’s Under-19s beat Atletico Madrid 3-1 in the Uefa Youth League ahead of the first team’s Champions League clash with the Spanish club.
Charlie Brown, Dujon Sterling (pictured above playing against Arsenal) and Jacob Maddox scored for the visitors, who were two up within nine minutes.
Brown scored the opener after being set up by Sterling, who doubled the lead before Atletico pulled a goal back.
Maddox restored the two-goal advantage with a superb individual goal just before the half-hour mark.
Meanwhile, five Chelsea players have been included in the England squad for the Under-17 World Cup.
