It was a good Saturday for both Chelsea and Manchester City.
The Blues won 4-0 at Stoke largely thanks to a hat-trick from forward Alvaro Morata, while City breezed past bottom of the table Crystal Palace 5-0 at the Etihad Stadium to go top .
Chelsea skipper Gary Cahill started the clash at the Bet365 Stadium on the bench, only emerging to replace Marcos Alonso in the 59th minute, while John Stones played for 70 minutes of City’s win.
You might wonder why we’re singling out those two players for their efforts. Well, it’s because something pretty odd happened after the matches.
A post from Stones’ official Instagram account appeared congratulating Chelsea on their win, and Morata on his hat-trick.
A nice show of sportsmanship from the City defender towards a title rival? Well, no.
It is one of football’s best kept secrets that many of the game’s stars have their social media accounts managed by public relations companies, and Stones and Cahill are managed by the same people.
The post – which was meant for Cahill’s account – was accidentally posted on Stones’, confusing fans.
The pair are both set to be named in Gareth Southgate’s latest England squad next week.
They’ll presumably have a lot to talk about!
