Chelsea’s $81m Costa lawsuit, Atleti deliver plea

Chelsea are considering launching an incredible $81m lawsuit against wantaway striker Diego Costa if he doesn’t return to training as Atletico Madrid have stepped in to try and end the transfer saga.

Costa, fresh off being named in Chelsea’s Premier League squad, failed to force through a move to his former club who are under a transfer ban until January 2018.

The Spanish international has been on strike in Brazil, refusing to return to Chelsea training in a bid to seal a return to La Liga. Costa was involved in an incredible public fall out with manager Antonio Conte who text messaged the star to inform him he is no longer in his plans.

Now, the PL champions are considering launching a £50million lawsuit against the rebel, claim The Express.

By refusing to return to training, Costa is in breach of his £185,000-a-week contract, which has two years to run.

The Daily Mail reports Atletico Madrid have encouraged Costa to end his exile in Brazil to help get the transfer over the line in January.

Atleti were hoping to reach an agreement with the Blues before the Spanish transfer window slammed shut, with the intention of loaning Costa out until they can register him, however they failed in their pursuit.

The other option was for Costa to train, but not play, with the Spanish club until their transfer ban passes. Chelsea held out for £50million, above the £40m Atleti were willing to pay.

Costa was included in the 21-man Premier League squad, meaning the door is open for him to return to the fold.

However he risks becoming a sideshow that undermines Conte’s men to start the season. Chelsea have already had to deal with a host of public sagas – including the sale of Nemanja Matic to direct rivals Manchester United and the failure to sign Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Romelu Lukaku and Ross Barkley.

Conte himself stalled on signing a new contract after winning the league title in his first season in charge. Instead, the Italian penned a new and improved contract which, oddly, did not involve an extension of the length.

Diego Costa continues to refuse Chelsea return

Yesterday, he was named in the club’s Premier league squad, but the Telegraph’s sources understand that he is refusing to return.

No indications
Back in June, Costa received a text from Conte saying:

“Hi Diego, I hope you are well. Thanks for the season we spent together.

Good luck for the next year but you are not in my plan.”

Today it’s 2 September, the transfer deadline has passed and Diego Costa remains a Chelsea player.

The Spaniard was even yesterday named in the Blues’ 25 man Premier League squad.

All summer long Diego Costa could be seen partying in Brazil on his Instagram, even wearing an Atlético Madrid top.

Atlético Madrid was the club Cotsa was angling to join, however, the deal never materialized.

The player is supposedly on strike in Brazil at this current moment in time.

Chelsea have asked Costa to make himself available for selection, but he is yet to give the club answer.

In fact, the club have been unable to get in touch with the 28-year-old all summer-long.

Unfair chance
Part of the reason behind his refusal to return is understood to be his belief that he will not be given a fair chance.

As mentioned, he has fallen out with manager Antonio Conte, who he believes will treat him unfairly.

Currently, lawyers are looking into the situation regarding Diego Costa’s absence.

Meanwhile, Chelsea goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois has made light of the situation by recreating Gerard Pique’s infamous Neymar tweet.
