Chelsea defender David Luiz reportedly broke his wrist during Sunday’s goalless draw with Arsenal and is facing a lengthy spell on the sidelines.
Brazilian Luiz will sit out the next three matches through suspension after he clattered into Sead Kolasinac late in the game and was given his marching orders.
But it was an incident earlier in the game that will see him in the stands for a longer period.
Luiz smashed into the advertising board and suffered a fracture, according to The Sun.
The Brazil international reappeared in the second half with bandaging around his wrist before he was shown a straight red card in the dying embers of Chelsea’s stalemate with the Gunners.
However, the problem apparently does not require surgery and the former PSG ace is still training in a splint.
The injury poses a problem for Antonio Conte following an impressive start to the season from Luiz.
He may turn to youngster Andreas Christensen for longer than he first intended after the news of Luiz’s ban.
Conte said: “Christensen is a very young player but I think he is a good player and I trust him.
“Now he has the possibility to play and now he has to prepare very well to play.”
