Bakayoko was a £40million arrival from Monaco this summer and replaced Nemanja Matic.
He played in the 2-1 win over Leicester yesterday and his defensive work impressed Conte.
Alvaro Morata and N’Golo Kante got the goals for the visitors.
And Conte wants Bakayoko to develop into the Kante mould.
“I think Baka is improving his physical condition and also starting to understand and adapt himself our style of football,” Conte said after the match.
“For sure he has to improve with the ball, without the ball he is very strong, in this game he helped us a lot and after the Leicester goal.
“He is a young player and a good signing for us. He has a lot of space to improve. Like N’Golo, he has to improve with the ball.”
The result was Chelsea’s third successive win after the opening-day defeat to Burnley.
And Conte reckons the defending Premier League champions are now back on track.
“For us it is very important always to follow a way and this way is the work, despite our bad start against Burnley and then a bit of difficulty,” he said.
“I think to win three in a row is important for the players, because we are doing very well.
“In England it is not easy to win, especially if you are the champions and you start in a bad way I have great players, they are reliable and I trust them.”

Antonio Conte sends message to Chelsea fans over Eden Hazard
Antonio Conte has urged Chelsea fans to be patient with Eden Hazard as he continues his return from a lengthy ankle injury.
Hazard was influential for the Blues last season as they stormed to the Premier League title but suffered a serious ankle injury in the summer while with Belgium.
The 26-year-old played the final 12 minutes of Chelsea’s narrow 2-1 win at Leicester City on Saturday and Conte insisted his return was good news for the club.
However, the Italian boss believes Hazard will need time to rediscover his top form and says patience is needed.
‘This is good news for us,’ Conte told Chelsea’s official website. ‘For sure he needs time to be 100 percent but for us his recovery is very important.
‘We all know very well the importance of this player for us.
‘Now we must have patience to give him the possibility to improve his form, but I am pleased for him because after a bad injury it’s great to see him with us.’
Chelsea’s victory at the King Power Stadium ensured the club moved up to third in the table following their opening day defeat against Burnley.
‘We must be satisfied… now we are trying to involve new players with the older players and this is a process,’ Conte added.
‘We need time. In football there is not a lot of time but we are working hard.
Club-record signing Alvaro Morata continued his fine form by scoring the opener on Saturday, while Chelsea fans also got a glimpse of fellow summer arrivals Antonio Rudiger, Tiemoue Bakayoko and Davide Zappacosta.
On France international Bakayoko, who joined the Blues from Monaco for £40million, Conte said: ‘I think Baka is improving his physical condition.
‘Also, he is starting to understand and adapt to our style of football. He has to improve with the ball because without the ball he is very strong.
‘He is a young player and has good signs for us.’
