Paul Merson believes that Alvaro Morata is ready to step in for Diego Costa and ‘terrorise’ Arsenal in Sunday’s clash with Chelsea at Stamford Bridge.
The Spanish striker has made an impressive start to life in a Chelsea shirt since signing for the Blues from Real Madrid back in July
Morata has scored three goals and made two assists in four Premier League outings so far to help Antonio Conte’s men win their last three games in the English top flight.
Costa, meanwhile, has not returned to Chelsea following the summer break after he claimed that he was told he was surplus to requirements at Stamford Bridge by Conte at the start of the summer.
However, former Arsenal striker Merson feels that Morata is more than capable of being the man to lead the line for Chelsea this season.
Writing in his column for the Daily Star, Merson said: “Alvaro Morata has been phenomenal since he came in and he will probably terrorise Arsenal on Sunday in the same way Diego Costa did.”
Chelsea head into the game looking to make it four wins on the spin in the Premier League.
Arsenal, meanwhile, are aiming to pick up their first Premier League points on the road this season after having suffered defeats by Stoke and Liverpool in their most recent away games.

Great for Man City & Chelsea: Paul Pogba’s shock injury timetable
Everton are Man United’s opponents on Sunday in the Premier League, as Jose Mourinho will be looking move back alongside Man City at the top of the table.
City showed their title credentials on Saturday at Watford as the Sky Blues demolished the Hornets 6-0.
That’s opened up a three point lead over United, but the Red Devils will close that gap if they beat Everton today.
The match versus the Toffees will, of course, be bursting with narratives. Romelu Lukaku will face his former employers, as will Wayne Rooney, who returns to Old Trafford for the first time since rejoining Everton.
The likes of Liverpool, Tottenham, Chelsea, Arsenal and Manchester City will all be hoping Everton take points off United.
But ahead of the game the Red Devils’ rivals have received a bit of a boost, as concerning updates about Paul Pogba’s fitness have leaked out.
Paul Pogba’s shock injury timetable
A dream night for Paul Pogba turned into a disaster on Tuesday evening as Manchester United beat Basel 3-0.
Pogba began the night as Manchester United captain which is some turnaround for a player that left the club on a free to Juventus.
However, Pogba only lasted 18 minutes of the match after pulling up with a hamstring injury.
Initial reports suggested Pogba will be out for six weeks. Sadly for Man United fans, it now seems that Pogba will be out for much, much longer. The Sunday Times reveal:
Manchester United fear they could be without Paul Pogba for up to three months as a result of the hamstring injury the midfielder suffered last week.
Old Trafford specialists believe the France international may need as many as 12 weeks of rehabilitation, a recovery period that would see him miss five Champions League games plus Premier League meetings with Liverpool, Tottenham, Chelsea, Arsenal and Manchester City.
If that’s true, it will clearly be a major blow to United and Pogba.
