Sixth signing to follow Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain to Chelsea

Chelsea could quickly add Danny Drinkwater to their ranks after agreeing a deal to sign Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain in a frenzied final transfer week.

The Blues are said to be close to landing the Leicester City midfielder after a deal of £28m has been agreed between both clubs.

The SFR Sports say Chelsea will have their man before transfer deadline day following their latest bid being accepted. It is not the first bid Chelsea have made for Drinkwater this summer.

Antonio Conte stamped on the deal to bring the all-action midfielder to Stamford Bridge and his top officials made a bid of £15m which was rejected.

The 27-year-old is contracted to Leicester until 2021, which made the deal to Chelsea look very bleak but the Daily Star reports he is keen to join the Premier League champions.

He is certain to compete for a starting berth with his old teammate N’Golo Kante, Cesc Fabregas and Tiemoue Bakayoko, and with matches many matches to play in the season, Drinkwater will have his desired minutes at a top club.

Chelsea are thought to be close to sealing the deal to bring in two other England internationals, Oxlade Chamberlain and Tottenham Hotpsur’s Danny Rose.

Arsenal fans react to Oxlade-Chamberlain’s potential move to Chelsea

This first tweet sums up the reactions of those who fall into the latter category, succinctly portraying how many Arsenal fans feel right now:

Chelsea have reportedly agreed a fee of £5m to sign Arsenal midfielder Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and supporters vented their fury on social media.

There were mixed responses to the Ox’s impending move, with some fans glad that at least one of the summer’s sagas seems to almost be over.

Some were glad to see the English international leave after six seasons of relative inconsistency, while others were upset that another promising player is leaving Arsenal for a rival.

Other fans were also worried that the deal would come back to haunt the Gunners, as so many deals have done in the past:

It’s a bit of a mess at Arsenal and supporters are frustrated to see the lessons not being learned as they go into another season not knowing which players are staying and going.

Arsenal have lost back-to-back Premier League games and find themselves 16th with three points from as many games this season. It’s perhaps no wonder why so many seem keen to jump ship.
