Press Conference: Conte updates on Danny Rose, Wenger’s sympathy & Hazard

In the first pre-match press conference of the new Premier League season, the Chelsea boss got straight to the point. Chelsea’s quest to defend the title they won last season begins tomorrow, as they host Sean Dyche’s Burnley at Stamford Bridge.

Conte will provide an update on how his side are preparing for the game, while the futures of Diego Costa and Eden Hazard are sure to be on the agenda.

The Blues have also been linked with several names in the transfer market, with Tottenham’s Danny Rose the latest, so the boss is sure to provide some clarity on the summer plans.

On the pitch, Chelsea have several question marks with Victor Moses suspended and Tiemoue Bakayoko and Eden Hazard both injured.

Here’s what Conte said:
On transfers: I think I am the coach of this team, my aim is to improve the players. Whatever happens in the transfer window, the club are doing their best. My focus is on the pitch, training sessions and the players. This must be my focus.

On Morata: It is normal for me and for the players that start to work with me that they need time to adapt to our style of football. It is normal this. Alvaro is working well, improving a lot his physical condition and starting to understand what I want about him.

For sure he needs time to understand to adapt to our style of football. For me the striker is a really important role and it is very important to understand the position I want in the game and it is more difficult to adapt than other roles.

On Wenger’s sympathy: I am not looking for sympathy from other coaches in this situation. If the club decides to send on loan the players for development it means the players are not ready to play for Chelsea.

On Rudiger: Could be, also because there isn’t Moses tomorrow as he will miss for one game. It could be a chance for him to start. I have been impressed because he is a good player, strong physically and technically.

On the squad: Honestly I am pleased because we are working very well with the players, the committment is incredible, better than last season. I am very happy because these players are working very well, so hard. We are trying to improve.

On who will miss the first game: (Apart from Hazard, Moses and Bakayoko) Pedro is not available tomorrow because he is suffering from an injury during the Arsenal game. He wasn’t able to recover. A knock in his ankle.

On what he needs: I have already answered this question. I don’t like to speak to this question and send message to the press. The club knows very well my opinion. The club are trying to do their best.

On the season ahead: I don’t know if this season can be more difficult than last season. For sure we are champions and have to face every game in the right way. The other teams are going to put 120 per cent against us. We have to pay great attention, to have the right intensity. We are working very hard to improve our team.

I think when you start a new season it is very important to think about ourselves and not see the others. To assess the other teams is not important to us. We have to improve our team. There are six strong teams to fight for the title, this is normal.

On Burnley: I think they are a really good team, a very good squad and for sure they are trying to add another step and try to fight for the title and Champions League. I like this, to have many teams to fight for the title increases the level of the league. The level is already high.

On being better: In the way they work in the training session. We are working very well and I must be pleased for the commitment of my players. They are working very well and it is a pleasure for me.
