Michael Owen says Chelsea are still the favourites to win the Premier League title next season but believes the likes of Manchester United and Liverpool will also be contenders.
The Blues are looking to defend their Premier League crown next term after having won the trophy in style in Antonio Conte’s first campaign in charge at the club.
However, the west London side did not have the distraction of European football last season and are now preparing for a return to the Champions League.
Manchester United will also be hoping to make significant improvements on their Premier League form from last term after Jose Mourinho’s men ended up in sixth place in the table.
Liverpool, too, will be aiming to mount a title challenge after the Reds secured a top-four finish under Jurgen Klopp last term.
Owen is still tipping Chelsea to win the Premier League title next season but the former striker also feels that the two Manchester clubs, Tottenham and Liverpool will be serious contenders.
Speaking in an interview with the Daily Star, Owen said: “Chelsea, as champions, are still the team to beat. Teams have to make up a lot of points from last season.
“But this is a new one and you can put Liverpool, Tottenham and the two Manchester clubs in the equation.
“They will be up there. Some of those teams who struggled to break down teams when needed last season have now all added goals this summer. That will win them crucial points when it most matters.”
Chelsea have signed four players so far this summer – Willy Caballero, Antonio Rudiger, Tiemoue Bakayoko and Alvaro Morata.
