Chelsea have considered making a move for Leicester City star Jamie Vardy this summer, according to reports.
Willy Caballero, Antonio Rudiger, Tiemoue Bakayoko and Alvaro Morata have all signed for the Premier League champions in recent weeks but it’s understood the club are determined to bring in further reinforcements before the summer transfer window slams shut.
The Telegraph suggest director Marina Granovskaia has set up a number of meetings with agents and rival clubs as the the Blues look to bring three more quality signings to Stamford Bridge.
Morata joined the club for an initial fee of £58million back in July but Antonio Conte is keen for another attacker to arrive with ten days of the window remaining.
Talks are ongoing over Chelsea’s interest in Leicester City midfielder Danny Drinkwater, Arsenal’s Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Everton’s Ross Barkley, despite his injury, and Southampton right-back Cedric Soares.
Inter Milan are braced for a bid from Chelsea for winger Antonio Candreva, while Paris Saint-Germain want to sell right-back Serge Aurier before the window shuts.
It’s claimed Vardy has been firmly on Chelsea’s radar, as well as Swansea’s Fernando Llorente, Torino’s Andrea Belotti and Crystal Palace’s Christian Benteke. The England striker rejected Arsenal last summer after the north London giants triggered his release clause at the King Power Stadium.
Chelsea are also considering whether or not to make a move for a new forward to support summer signing Alvaro Morata, with Fernando Llorente, Christian Benteke, Jamie Vardy and Andrea Belotti all players they have considered over the past months and weeks.
Chelsea have made it clear to Southampton they remain interested in signing £60m-rated Van Dijk, but have also agreed to respect the stance of the St Mary’s club until any point that it changes.
It is hoped that by taking a soft approach that Chelsea will put themselves first in line to potentially land Van Dijk if and when Southampton’s stance changes, whether that is before the end of this window, in January or even next summer.
It’s understood Chelsea remain also very interested in signing Virgil van Dijk but are respecting Southampton’s stance that the defender is not for sale this summer.
