Marcos Alonso has lavished praise on David Luiz for his fine performance in Chelsea’s 2-1 win over Tottenham at Wembley on Sunday.
The Brazilian midfielder was asked to play in front of Chelsea’s back three as the Blues picked up their first Premier League points of the season.
Alonso scored both of Chelsea’s goals as the west London side bounced back from their shock 3-2 loss to Burnley at Stamford Bridge in their opener last weekend.
However, Luiz caught the eye with a brilliant display for the west Londoners as Antonio Conte’s men got their season back on track with three points.
And Alonso was full of praise for Luiz after the game as he singled out the midfielder after the game.
Alonso told Chelsea’s website: “He [Luiz] did such a good job, in midfield, in defending, in the centre, on one side.
“A very good game from him and I am happy for him and for the team.”
The Spaniard went on to declare that Chelsea have now underlined their status as title contenders once again this season as the bid to try and defend the trophy they won in Conte’s first campaign last term.
He continued: “There was a lot of talking during the week, everybody, and I think we showed we are together.
“We worked so hard this week and we 100 per cent deserved the win. We showed we are going to fight again for the title this year.”
Chelsea are also preparing for a return to the Champions League next month after their title triumph last term.
The Blues have signed four players so far this summer as they look to challenge for trophies on four fronts this season.
