Fabregas suspended, Baka injured, Luiz in midfield? How will Chelsea line up against Spurs next week

Chelsea suffered a nightmare defeat at home to Burnley on the opening day of their Premier League season, and things could get even uglier against Tottenham next week.

The Blues not only lost 3-2 to Sean Dyche’s men in an embarrassing start in the defence of their title, but also saw Gary Cahill and Cesc Fabregas sent off at Stamford Bridge.

Both players will now be suspended for the trip to Wembley to take on Spurs, who must be licking their lips at the prospect of facing such a depleted Chelsea side.

Antonio Conte is already without Eden Hazard, Pedro and Tiemoue Bakayoko due to injury, while the recent sale of Nemanja Matic to rivals Manchester United leaves them incredibly short in midfield.

This could mean David Luiz is forced to step up into that role alongside N’Golo Kante, with an unconvincing back three of Cesar Azpilicueta, Antonio Rudiger and Andreas Christensen.

All in all, this seems a probable line up for Chelsea’s next game, though they will hope they can bring Pedro back in time…

Chelsea were already under strength this afternoon as Victor Moses missed out through suspension, while Alvaro Morata was only introduced off the bench due to not yet being entirely match fit.

Both should give Conte a small boost next week, but it certainly looks bleak for the Premier League champions.
Danny Drinkwater has been linked as a top priority target from Leicester City, but given Chelsea’s slow work in the transfer market so far this summer, it remains to be seen if they can bring him in in time for next weekend.

Conte has been public about his dissatisfaction with Chelsea’s work in the transfer market all summer and events today and this possible XI for next week will certainly make him feel justified in pushing for more signings.

  2. Antonio conte and chelsea board needs to settle the disagreement between them to employ progress and chelsea needs more sign in and costa also to return to chelsea that will be very good
