Chelsea’s Gary Cahill and Cesc Fabregas have been officially given their bans by the FA and the new club skipper is set to miss some key games.
The 31-year-old was given a straight red card for his rash challenge on Matt Lowton in just the 14th minute of the game, with the England international now due to miss the Blues’ next three games.
The skipper will not be involved for the game at Spurs at the weekend, while also missing Everton at home the following weekend, before the trip to Leicester City after the international break.
It comes as a massive blow to the Blues, who are already short of numbers and need to bring in players before the transfer window closes on August 31.
Meanwhile, Fabregas got two yellow cards, one for a sarcastic clap in the direction of Craig Pawson, and his second for another rash challenege. He will miss Sunday’s trip to Wembley, which leaves Antonio Conte with a proper selection headache in the middle of the park at the weekend.
Conte will be boosted by the return of Victor Moses from his suspension, but Pedro is still an uncertainty after the ankle injury he picked up against Arsenal in the Community Shield.
