Welcome and thank you for joining us today from the Chelsea training ground in beautiful Cobham, south London where we will be bringing you updates fron Antonio Conte’s pre-match press conference.
The Blues are due to take on Everton this weekend in a game that could prove quite tricky for Chelsea following the Toffees’ summer of spending which saw them add Wayne Rooney, Gylfi Sigurdsson and Jordan Pickford, to name a few.
It is the final game before international football takes over for a week and so Conte will be hoping his men head into the break with some momentum following their win over Spurs at Wembley last week.
Conte is expected to review injury news ahead of that match and discuss whether we will see a similar system as the one we saw implemented against Spurs.
The Chelsea manager is sure to be asked about transfer updates too – with Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Diego Costa high on the agenda as ever in that respect.
Follow every word that Antonio Conte has to say live with our man Adam Jones at Cobham.
My plan is the plan of the club. In this case for now it’s important to wait because we are in the transfer market to try and improve our squad.
We need players.
On Wayne Rooney
He’s playing very well. Yesterday I watched the game and he run a lot from the start to the end.
It’s fantastic to see a player like Rooney playing in this way.
He’s an icon for football in general and he decided to retire internationally and it’s a pity. He thought a lot and took his decision and we have to respect that.
He’s totally comitted for Everton and I think Ronald Koeman will be very happy for this.
Honestly I see him every day. In this situation it’s very important to give the right time to players to recover very well.
Hazard is an important player for us and if someone thinks to accelerate the process I think it’s not the right way. In this moment we must pay great attention to not make a mistake.
More on transfers
We think with “us” not with “I”.
We are trying to strengthen our squad and if we are in the transfer market it means we need to improve the squad.
On fixture build-up
I hope after the international break to have the whole team – in this case to also have the possibility to think about Hazard. But I’m not sure about this.
We are going to play seven games in a month. I need to rotate the players because if someone is thinking that I can use only 11 players or 13 players it’s impossible because I have to rotate.
We must be ready to face this situation.
On Champions League
It’s a tough group, but when you play this competition you need to expect to play the toughest teams, the best teams in Europe.
It’s very important to play very well and to try and do our best.
It’s a long trip [to Azerbaijan] but we have to face this situation and we will do this.
I decided to start with Morata because I thought that this decision was the best for the team.
Morata is improving a lot. Morata and don’t forget Bakayoko to go in to a new style of football is not simple.
You have to understand movement. Morata is improving his physical condition a lot and Bakayoko is doing the same.
We sent a really good message.
In a difficult situation we were able to get a win against a tough team.
It’s normal to suffer when you play against this type of team. We must be very happy for the spirit and the desire that we showed.
On transfer process
That is not important.
The most important thing, my task, is to be focused on the pitch.
On transfers again
We have to continue to work. If the club is able to go in to the transfer market and get new players I will be very happy.
But otherwise I will continue to work with these players.
For sure Koeman makes a really strong team but also last season Everton were a strong team.
This season they’ve improved a lot and we must pay great attention on Sunday because for sure this type of game will be difficult for us.
But it is very important after a really good win to continue this way.
I don’t like to talk about other players, I think it’s a lack of respect.
For me it’s very important for me to continue to work and improve my players and my team.
For sure the club is trying to strengthen our squad and our team, they’re working very hard to do this.
You know very well the situation. You have to continue to work, if we stay with these players I’m very happy.
On Hazard international call up
I’m a bit surprised by this decision
I respect the decision of the coach though.
If Hazard isn’t ready he will not play, it’s why he doesn’t play with us.
On team news
I think the only players that is not fully fit is Hazard. He is improving.
Today in the afternoon he is playing with the U23 but he is not fully fit.
The other players are available.
