Chelsea face complication in £40m bid to sign striker before transfer deadline

Chelsea are set to lose out in the race to sign Jamie Vardy as Leicester City are refusing to sell the striker before Thursday’s deadline, according to reports.

The Daily Mirror claims that the Premier League champions are ready to spend £40 million on the England international, although they face strong competition from Everton as Ronald Koeman is also in the market for the new forward.

But Leicester are ready to stand firm over Vardy, who signed an improved four-year contract after rejected Arsenal’s approach last summer.

It’s reported that Chelsea and Everton believe that the 30-year-old is open to leaving Leicester, but the club will refuse to grant him a move away.

Antonio Conte is looking to bolster his attacking options before the summer window closes and Vardy would provide competition for Alvaro Morata and Michy Batshuayi. Chelsea are also in talks with Swansea City to sign Fernando Llorente.

Conte wanted the 32-year-old in January but Swansea refused to sell as the striker was playing a key role in their battle against relegation from the Premier League.

Llorente has played under Conte during their time together at Juventus, while in his first Premier League season last term, the Spaniard scored 15 goals for Swansea.

Chelsea are planning to sign Llorente before the window closes on Thursday but the deal hinges on whether Swansea can re-sign Wilfried Bony from Manchester City.

International Star Hands In Transfer Request To Force £30m Chelsea Move

Managers are now pressing ahead with their plans for the final days of the summer transfer window so we’ll bring you all the latest news and gossip from around the globe. Today, Danny Drinkwater is desperate to join Chelsea.

Leicester City midfielder Danny Drinkwater has handed in a transfer request to try and force through a potential £30m move to Chelsea, according to the Evening Standard.

Antonio Conte is desperately trying to further strengthen his squad before Thursday night’s deadline and he needs another midfielder after selling Nemanja Matic to Manchester United and Nathan Chalobah to Watford.

The Blues have already missed out on Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain after he snubbed a move to Chelsea in favour of Liverpool so it’s imperative Conte lands his other prime target; Drinkwater.

Chelsea have been chasing the England international in recent weeks but have struggled to agree terms with Leicester with the Evening Standard claiming their latest £25m bid was rejected.

The newspaper claims the Foxes are wanting at least £30m for Drinkwater’s signature and Chelsea are expected to submit a third offer but it remains to be seen whether it will match their valuation.

It looks like Drinkwater is trying to take matters in to his own hands as the Evening Standard claims the 27-year-old handed in a transfer request earlier this week to try and force through a move to west London.

It hasn’t done the trick yet but the good news for Chelsea is that the two clubs are still negotiating and the report says Leicester are now on the look out for potential replacements.

So it appears Chelsea will be clear to sign Drinkwater as long as the Foxes can sign another midfielder before the transfer window slams shut on Thursday night.

If Conte gets his man, then Drinkwater will have the opportunity to rekindle his partnership with N’Golo Kante but he’ll face stiff competition from the likes of Tiemoue Bakayoko and Cesc Fabregas for a starting spot in the middle of the park.
