Highly-rated midfielder Tiemoue Bakayoko has been confirmed as a Chelsea player after completing a switch from Monaco.
The 22-year-old spent three years with Monaco and enjoyed an impressive 2016-17 campaign as he played a big role in helping the club to lift the Ligue 1 title, while they also made it to the Champions League semi-finals.
Chelsea expressed an interest in the France international early in the summer and he has now finally been confirmed as a new recruit at Stamford Bridge.
Bakayoko, who reportedly cost around £40million, has penned a five-year contract with the Premier League champions and will take the number 14 shirt for the upcoming season.
“I am very happy to be here and to join this great team. I have grown up watching Chelsea. Signing was the natural thing for me because it is a club I loved very much in my childhood,” Bakayoko told Chelsea’s official website.
“I am now looking forward to evolving under this fantastic coach and alongside so many great team-mates.”
Chelsea technical director Michael Emenalo said : ”Tiemoue was outstanding as Monaco emerged as one of Europe’s best sides last season and we are delighted to welcome him to Chelsea.
”Despite his young age he already has plenty of experience as a French title winner and having competed in the latter stages of the Champions League, we believe he will add considerable quality to our squad. ”
For the upcoming season, Tiemoue Bakayoko has been handed the number fourteen jersey by Chelsea.
