Official: £34m defender signs for Chelsea in full kit

The defender is seen signing the contract with Chelsea officials in full Chelsea attire. He takes the no. 2 shirt vacated by Ivanovic.

Chelsea have announced the signing of Antonio Rudiger from Roma on a five-year contract.

The deal between the two sides is believed to be around €35 million, with the 24-year-old taking the No.2 shirt at Stamford Bridge.

“It’s a great feeling because not every player has the opportunity to join a huge club like this,” the defender told Chelsea’s official website.

“I am looking forward to meeting up with my new team-mates and I’m very proud to officially become a Chelsea player.”

Rudiger spent two years at the Stadio Olimpico following a move from Stuttgart and was part of the Germany team which won the Confederations Cup this summer.

Technical director Michael Emenalo said: “We are pleased to be able to bring in a player of proven quality who adds to our defensive options.

“Antonio is still young but is experienced at club and international level and possesses all the requisite attributes to thrive in the Premier League. We have been aware of him for some time and we are confident he will fit in well with the squad.”

So far this summer, Roma have sold Mohamed Salah to Liverpool, Leandro Paredes to Zenit St Petersburg and Wojciech Szczesny returned to Arsenal after his loan deal came to an end.

  1. In my opinion we still left with two signings that a midfielder(Bakayoko) and a striker, probably Morata. In doing this we can compete all thecups. However, if we can sign Alex Sandro that will be plus for the team.
