TIEMOUE BAKAYOKO could return from injury to make his Chelsea debut against Arsenal in the Community Shield.
That’s according to French journalist Julien Quelen as Blues fans eagerly await their first glimpse of Antonio Conte’s big-money signing.
Bakayoko shot to fame playing under Leonardo Jardim as Monaco wrestled the Ligue 1 title away from Paris St-Germain last season.
And his performances at the Stade Louis II saw him heavily linked with a move to Chelsea and, fleetingly, Manchester United.
Conte splashed out almost £40m to take Bakayoko to Stamford Bridge, where he’s joined by fellow new boys Antonio Rudiger, Alvaro Morata and Willy Caballero.
However, he’s not been able to play for Chelsea yet because he underwent minor surgery on a knee problem earlier this summer.
There were fears Bakayoko would not be back in action until a month into the 2017/18 Premier League campaign.
It seems Chelsea fans need not worry though – with the 22-year-old potentially in contention to feature at Wembley this Sunday.
Taking to Twitter, Goal reporter Quelen revealed: “Tiemoue Bakayoko should be on foot more quickly than expected and could even be available for the Community Shield 6/08.”
Bakayoko will be hoping to establish himself alongside N’Golo Kante in the Chelsea engine room next season.
One midfielder leaving west London though is Nemanja Matic, with a £40m move to United on the cards.
