Chelsea transfer plan explained regarding Aubameyang and Alexis Sanchez: Full Report

CHELSEA may look at Arsenal contract rebel Alexis Sanchez as an alternative to Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, according to European football expert Gabriele Marcotti.

Aubameyang is linked with a move to Chelsea after they missed out on Romelu Lukaku, who instead joined Manchester United from Everton.

The Borussia Dortmund star wants to leave this summer after top scoring in the Bundesliga last season and will be allowed to move if a club matches his £70million asking price.

However, apart from Paris Saint-Germain earlier this summer, Aubameyang had not attracted much interest up until the recent reports linking Chelsea with him.

Marcotti says that is because the style of striker Aubameyang is is not what teams have been on the lookout for.

“Most of the teams this summer that were looking for centre-forwards, that applies to (Manchester) United and Chelsea certainly, were looking for lead-the-line, target men centre-forwards and that’s not his game,” Marcotti said on ESPN FC.

“I think that given the sort of power that managers have these days where they’re paid so much money and given so much control and they say ‘no, I want this specific type of centre-forward’.

“They don’t want to overhaul their team to accommodate Aubameyang.

“I think at the same time, there is also an issue where maybe some of his people played it a little bit wrong.”

Chelsea are looking to replace Diego Costa after manager Antonio Conte told him he is not in his plans for the upcoming season.

Aubameyang is a different type of forward to Costa but Marcotti thinks if Chelsea do change their tactics and look for a more dynamic player, they may look at Sanchez instead of the Gabon international.

“In the case of Chelsea, Chelsea are still sitting there saying ‘you know what, there might be other options’,” Marcotti added.

“If they want an Aubameyang-type, then maybe Alexis Sanchez becomes viable given some of his quotes back in Chile.

“They’re kind of sitting there working on multiple fronts and they’re pretty confident they can bring in the right deal at the right price.”

Sanchez is out of contract at Arsenal at the end of June 2018.

On Saturday he said he wants to be playing in and competing for the Champions League, a tournament Arsenal are not in but Chelsea are.
