There’s a few Chelsea fans in the Transfer Tavern still bemoaning about their side missing out on Romelu Lukaku.
It seemed certain that the Blues would sign the Belgium international who netted 24 league goals for Everton last season.
Yet somehow, Manchester United swooped in from under the noses of Antonio Conte’s side.
Chelsea did match the Red Devils bid of £75m, but it was too little too late as the striker had already started packing his bags for Manchester.
Nevertheless, Lukaku moving to United was a blessing in disguise for the Blues.
Despite the striker impressing last season, he was often berated for his poor ability to hold the ball and ridiculed for his heavy first touch – Chelsea essentially would have traded Diego Costa’s bad temperament for Lukaku’s poor link-up play.
Don’t believe us? Here’s Lukaku’s debut for Man Utd. Look at the first touches, mistimed passes and the lost chances. BTW our Michy just scored a brace with a couple of assists in 45 minutes yesterday:
The Blues appear to have moved on to Pierre Emerick-Aubameyang.
The Borussia Dortmund striker has been instrumental for the German side year after year and is now reportedly on Chelsea’s radar.
Aubameyang is valued at around £70m by Dortmund, which seems appropriate for a forward who netted a staggering 31 times in 32 Bundesliga match last season.
According to the Express, a deal for the Gabon international could be smooth after he informed the club he wants to leave this summer.
Of course if Chelsea fail to land a striker at all, the future of manager Antonio Conte will look increasingly bleak.
The Blues boss is already losing patience with the board, and a possible apology to Diego Costa may have to happen.
