Antonio Conte hopes Chelsea can clinch a surprising summer transfer move to bring Leonardo Bonucci to Stamford Bridge, reports say.
Bonucci is widely considered as one of best defenders in Europe and played an instrumental role in Juventus’ run to the Champions League final this season.
La Liga giants Real Madrid and Premier League rivals Manchester United and Man City are said to be interested in a deal for the 30-year-old.
But The Sun say Conte is desperate to secure his services, ready to offer the experienced Italian a four-year deal worth around £115,000-a-week.
Conte, who has worked with Bonucci before, is keen to bolster his defensive options following the departure of club legend John Terry.
Southampton’s Virgil van Dijk had been tipped to join the new Premier League champions, but Conte now looks set to miss out on the Dutchman, who has reportedly decided to join Liverpool.
Meanwhile, Chelsea’s hopes of signing Romelu Lukaku from Everton have taken a hit, with Bayern Munich joining the race to land the unsettled Belgian striker.
