The agent of Chelsea goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois has held meetings with Real Madrid as the Belgium international continues to stall over signing a new deal.
The 25-year-old has established himself as one of Europe’s top shot-stoppers in his time at Stamford Bridge, and is reportedly looking to more than double his current earnings.
Courtois earns £90,000 a week but his most recent demands have reportedly seen Chelsea put off contract talks for the time being, though they hope to reach an agreement before the start of the new season, according to the Daily Mail.
Real Madrid have regularly been linked with the former Atletico No.1 and his representative has revealed he is constantly in touch with the Champions League holders.
‘Of course Thibaut is of interest to the big clubs, including the latest Champions League winner,’ Christophe Henrotay told Sport Foot.
‘He’s someone who helps you win games, titles. I meet regularly those in charge at Real Madrid, and Thibaut’s case has come up. My role is to keep him updated on the situation.
Courtois is said to be waiting on the outcome of talks with Eden Hazard and for the signing of Romelu Lukaku to be concluded before committing to a new deal and wants relative parity with his compatriots.
Meanwhile, Chelsea are believed to be closing in on a deal to sign former Manchester City ‘keeper Willy Caballero as a backup to Courtois for next season, having sold Asmir Begovic to Bournemouth earlier this summer.
