Chelsea are finally set to announce the capture of a new midfield star, as the Blues have agreed a deal with Monaco for Tiemoue Bakayoko.
A few days ago, L’Equipe reported that Chelsea have offered €30m for the French international, Monaco want up to €50m, and that means the deal is currently at the standstill.
Earlier in the week, the Times offered an update on the situation a couple of days ago, telling their readers the Chelsea “are hopeful of reaching an agreement with AS Monaco to sign Tiemoue Bakayoko, the France midfield player, before the players return on July 5.”
22-year-old Bakayoko is under contract at Monaco until 2019.
On Friday, the news from the Times is that the Bakayoko deal is virtually done. The broadsheet tell readers:
Chelsea have reached an agreement with Monaco for the French midfielder in a deal worth about £36 milllion. Terms are still to be agreed, but Bakayoko is expected to move in the next few days.
The rumour is that Bakayoko will wear the number 14 shirt at Stamford Bridge.
It’s also worth noting that the Bakayoko deal will likely trigger the sale of Nemanja Matic to Man United.
