Chelsea striker Diego Costa is reported as being ‘very close’ to signing for Atletico Madrid in a likely January transfer window move after the club’s boost of keeping hold of Antoine Griezmann.
The Spain international recently admitted that Atletico were the only club he’d consider leaving Stamford Bridge for, though he did suggest he expected to stay where he is this summer.
Still, with Atletico being hit by a transfer ban for this window, they are preparing some big spending for when the ban is lifted in January, and Costa is one of the names on their list.
In fact, AS claim that the deal is close to being finalised, with Sevilla forward Vitolo and Malaga striker Sandro also on their agenda to strengthen their attack.
This will be a huge blow for Chelsea, whose transfer plans took something of a hit today if reports elsewhere are to be believed.
Firstly, the club’s top target to replace Costa, Romelu Lukaku, has been approached by Manchester United in a move likely to cost £90million, which could prevent the Blues from snapping him up.
Chelsea fans will hope, however, that reports earlier this week of Costa being close to signing a new contract at the club prove correct.
