CHELSEA boss Antonio Conte has reportedly made contact with Bayern Munich over a transfer deal for Jerome Boateng.
Chelsea are stepping up their transfer plans despite winning the Premier League by eight points last season.
Blues boss Antonio Conte is targeting more success and has all but completed a deal for Monaco’s Tieumoue Bakayoko.
His arrival is expected to trigger the exit of Nemanja Matic, who is edging closer to a reunion with Jose Mourinho at Manchester United.
Chelsea are likely to pursue a new central defender after club captain John Terry was allowed to leave.
Another Blues centre-back facing an uncertain future is Nathan Ake, with reports claiming is on the verge of a £20million move to Bournemouth.
And Sky Italia, according to journalist Tancredi Palmeri, are saying that contact has consequently been made with Bayern involving Boateng.
The Germany international last appeared on these shores with Manchester City and, after a poor spell at the Etihad, he was then sold to Bayern.
But the 28-year-old has since established himself as one of the best centre-backs in world football and has won 13 major honours during a six-year spell at the Allianz Arena.
It is said Boateng has now emerged as a target with Conte facing difficulties in signing Southampton’s Virgil van Dijk and Juventus’ Leonardo Bonucci.
Bayern could be tempted into selling if the right offer comes in given the player’s injury problems, with Boateng managing just 21 appearances across all competitions last term.
Speaking last month, the former Manchester City defender admitted he was determined to regain his fitness and suggested he would be happy to stay with Carlo Ancelotti’s side.
“I don’t have anything else planned. There’s only a few clubs in the world with the appeal and tradition of Bayern Munich,” he said.
“I didn’t play much so it’s normal that I’m not entirely happy.
“Now I’ve just picked up this unfortunate injury against Freiburg. I’ll use the off-season to be fit to begin preparations for the new season.”
