If this calendar year is anything to go by, there is always drama with Diego Costa and this is once again the case.
The Chelsea striker spoke to the Spanish media after Spain’s 2-2 international friendly with Colombia on Wednesday evening.
Costa was an unused substitute for Spain as Alvaro Morata, the Manchester United target, scored an 87th minute equaliser.
“I have to leave Chelsea this summer”
The Brazilian-born striker might not have played a minute but has dominated the aftermath of the Spain friendly.
Costa’s most eye catching quote was: “I have to leave Chelsea this summer because Conte has told me that he does not count on me.”
But, it did not start or finish there.
“I’ll have to find a way out”
Costa admitted: “My relationship with the coach [Costa] has been bad this season. I suppose I’ve had a bad season so I can’t go on.”
The Brazilian-born striker added: “I’m going to be honest, the other day, Conte sent me a message saying he does not count on me for next season, so I’ll have to find a way out.
On where he might end up next, Costa added: “I love living in Madrid, but I have to think about my future. It’s complicated because I cannot go four or five months without playing. I have no preference for a league, I just want to play.”
Where next for Diego Costa?
In recent weeks a move to China has become less likely for Costa due to tax rules on foreign players.
Similarly, a transfer ban on Atletico Madrid makes a return to Diego Simeone’s side rather unlikely.
From a Chelsea perspective, it seems very likely that if Conte did say what Costa claims he did, then the deal for Romelu Lukaku is close to completion.
Nevertheless, after a key role for Chelsea this past season as they won the Premier League, Blues supporters are worried about these Costa quotes…
