Manchester United are reported to have agreed a fee with Chelsea for the services of Nemanja Matic, who is close to completing a move.
The Reds have already agreed personal terms with the player after being given permission to hold talks and the move should be completed shortly after the two clubs also agreed on an undisclosed fee.
Reds boss Jose Mourinho is a huge admirer of Matic having signed him for Chelsea, and sees him as the long-term successor to Michael Carrick, who has penned a new deal but is approaching the end of his career.
Chelsea are also happy to sanction a deal as they are closing in on a swoop a £37million swoop for AS Monaco midfielder Tiemoue Bakayoko, who is seen as the ideal replacement for the departing Matic.
Mourinho is planning a host of new signings this summer and Matic will become his second capture following the arrival of central defender Victor Lindelof from Benfica.
