Not good enough?
“Our start wasn’t good enough. They started the game better than us. Honestly the goal after three minutes in this way, I think this goal [should have been] disallowed because there was a clear handball.
“But our start wasn’t good, for the first 20 or 25 minutes then we started to play in the second half, we created chances to equalise.
“The second yellow card for Moses was one of the two key moments, but despite this we were able to equalise. But then we conceded after one minute and it was the key moment for our loss. We created another chance with Diego, but Ospina made a fantastic save. But to play with ten men, we were able to equalise but to concede the second goal was key.”
Red card right?
“It is very difficult to tell because I saw a contact with Moses and the defender but not sure if it was enough. It was one of the key moments in this game in the same way like the first goal.”
Players recover in time?
“I don’t know if my players had the time to recover, I need to watch again at the goal. but there is a clear handball, it is very clear but i don’t know why the referee didn’t decide to whistle this situation. It can happen. A player makes a mistake, the referee makes a mistake. But towards the end of the season I saw a lot of these situations against our team. Against Manchester United and Bournemouth they scored. I think that we were unlucky.”
Hard after league win?
“It is not easy. We won the league, it was right to say thanks and enjoy this win. My players put all themselves in the game, our start wasn’t good and the approach wasn’t good. Arsenal pushed at the start, I think we paid for the start.
Honestly now it is very difficult to discuss this situation, I didn’t see. I you don’t watch this situation it is difficult to remember and to say something about this and I don’t want to make a mistake. The reality is we lost the game.”
Why no black armbands?
“(Steve Atkins, Chelsea press officer) It was an unfortunate mistake. There was some last minute confusion about kit and what the players would wear on their way out, jackets or no jackets.
“At the last minute they decided to wear the jackets and the black armbands were left where they were. We rectified it as soon as possible after the game was started and the players all came out in the second half with them. It would be very unfair to accuse the players or Chelsea of being disrespectful after week everyone has had and the messages that have come from the club.
“(Conte) Yesterday we started the press conference with what happened in Manchester.”
Priorities for the summer?
“Now the most important thing is to give a correct evaluation on our season. The season was incredible for us. every player performed 120 per cent or 130 per cent every single game. We didn’t have injuries and it is important to understand this. This season for us was incredible because every single player gave all themselves to the work, they worked very hard and next season we must pay great attention to understand that we have to improve, numbers in the squad and quality. It’s very important. We must be cold to analyse this situation and understand this season.”
“I put Cesc on after 60 minutes because we wanted to try to have more quality in the passes to find the situation with vertical passes. For sure Matic played a really good game, but if you see our past and sometimes I make this change when we are losing or drawing the game to have more quality, also when the rhythm is slower.”
Worried about the players stewing about the result?
“If I have to be worried because in the mind of my players this defeat, I think when we started the season after tenth place and it has been a great season for us.
“To win the league after 30 wins and reach the final of the FA Cup with not a big squad, a normal squad, I think it was incredible.
“My players must remain in the mind our fantastic season and also this final. You have to reach this point to play in the final and it is a pity we didn’t win the FA Cup. Don’t forget we had a great year and we must be proud of this.”
