Defender perfect for Conte’s system tells team-mates he’s leaving as Blues consider bid

Ryan Bertrand has told his Southampton team-mates that he expects to leave the club this summer, reports say.

The left-back has developed into one of the best full-backs in the Premier League after joining Southampton permanently from Chelsea two years ago.

Liverpool are in the market for a new left-back, but Chelsea are also rumoured to be interested in re-signing Bertrand.

The Mirror claim Bertrand has already informed his team-mates that he will exit this summer as he targets a step up.

Southampton have a dire history of losing their best players and this summer looks set to be no different.

Bertrand is just one Saint eyeing a transfer with Virgil van Djik also expected to demand a move.

Chelsea and Liverpool are watching Bertrand’s situation closely and the Blues are encouraged by the fact the defender still lives in the London area.

Bertrand came through the Chelsea academy and Antonio Conte is eager to strengthen his wing-back options this summer.

Should Chelsea go for Bertrand, given the amount of fixtures next season, the Englishman and Marcos Alonso could take care of the Left Wing Back position.

What do you think of this situation?
