Antonio Conte is already planning a number of summer signings to strengthen his squad. He knows his squad needs to get deeper and younger. That’s why he wants to sign West Ham star Manuel Lanzini to usher Cesc Fabregas out of the squad.
English sources claim that Chelsea officials see Lanzini as the next Luka Modric. He currently plays further forward for Slaven Bilic’s club, but the passing abilities of both men are quite similar. It’s certainly conceivable that Lanzini could move further back in the Chelsea formation.
West Ham have already let the word out that the Argentine star could be available this summer. It’s not as if they want him to go, but they understand the financial realities of their place in the Premier League. Rumours claim that a transfer offer of just £30 million could be enough to pry Lanzini away from his current club.
Chelsea won’t bat an eye at that transfer sum. In truth, the Blues could meet West Ham’s valuation and still have it be one of their cheapest summer purchases. Much like when they purchased N’Golo Kante from Leicester City last summer, it could prove to be one of their most effective transfer as well.
If the deal comes through, Fabregas may feel a bit hard done. He certainly played an integral part in Conte’s squad down the stretch. The Spanish midfielder will certainly feel like he has more to give at Stamford Bridge.
Chelsea are being linked with a number of big name transfer targets, but don’t be surprised if they complete a couple under the radar signings too. Bringing in Manuel Lanzini for just £30 million could be a coup for Conte and company.
