JAMIE CARRAGHER believes Chelsea boss Antonio Conte rarely speaks to Cesar Azpilicueta, because he doesn’t need to.
Azpilicueta has starred for Chelsea in their title-winning season as the right-sided defender in a back three alongside Gary Cahill and David Luiz.
The Spaniard has played every single minute of the Premier League campaign so far with one game remaining against Sunderland this Sunday at Stamford Bridge.
Liverpool legend Carragher says Azpilicueta is the type of personality a manager loves to have in a squad.
“You think of the job of a manager, keeping 25 players happy,” he said on Sky Sports.
“There’s all different characters and there’s probably people you have to talk to all the time, try to keep them on side.
“I’d imagine the manager very rarely speaks to him.
“I don’t know, he just looks like that type in a squad that the manager would think ‘well he trains well every day, I know what I’m going to get, seven or eight out of 10 every single week, not a problem’ he’s never injured, never a problem off the pitch.
“I think you want as a manager to have three or four of them in your squad.
“It’s very difficult now with the egos of players, with the way players are treated now.
“He looks like a throwback really of players in the past, he just gets on with it, plays every minute.”
