ANTONE CONTE has claimed Michy Batshuayi “paid him a lot” with his Premier League title-winning goal against West Brom.
Antonio Conte brought Michy Batshuayi on for Eden Hazard late on as West Brom looked to have ground out a 0-0 draw at the Hawthorns.
But the Belgium international had other plans as he poked home a six-yard effort in the 82nd minute to give Chelsea the win and the Premier League title.
It was only the striker’s second league goal of the season and Conte has admitted he was delighted to see the 23-year-old repay his faith in him.
“I thought that Hazard and Pedro were tired and we needed more energy,” Conte said.
“Michy paid me a lot with this change! It was great.
“It wasn’t easy for me to arrive in England and try different habits, a different language and inherit players after a bad season.
“This is a great achievement for the players. I thank them for their commitment and work rate.
“They show me a great attitude to try to do something great this season.
“After this win we must be happy, we must be pleased.”
