CHELSEA are sweating on Thibaut Courtois’ fitness ahead of next weekend’s FA Cup semi-final with Tottenham.
Chelsea goalkeeper Courtois was a late omission from the XI that lost 2-0 to Manchester United this afternoon.
Asmir Begovic replaced the Belgium international but could not prevent Marcus Rashford and Ander Herrera finding the net.
The defeat means Chelsea are now just four points ahead of Tottenham in the Premier League title race.
But a more pressing concern for manager Antonio Conte is that Courtois may not be ready to play against Spurs in the FA Cup.
Chelsea and Spurs clash at Wembley next Saturday for a place in the final.
Courtois was likely to have played the game but a freak ankle injury picked up in a basketball game appears to have impacted on the goalkeeper.
Asked if the problem was caused by playing basketball, Conte said: “I think it’s not important to understand the way he had this injury.
“The bad news is he’s injured and it’s important to work for the recovery soon.”
He added: “During the week he had an injury in is ankle.
“He didn’t recover for this game.
“I hope it’s only this game.”
