Barcelona scouted three Chelsea players in Monday night’s 2-1 win over West Ham according to the Spanish press.
In one of the more outrageous claims made by Spanish football paper Marca this season, Barcelona scouts were said to be in the stands watching Cesar Azpilicueta, Marcos Alonso and Nemanja Matic as they beat the Hammers.
Director Robert Fernandez is apparently gearing up for a rebuild of his side this summer following the departure of Luis Enrique and has his sights on some of the jewels in Chelsea’s crown.
Marcos Alonso seems like the least likely target, given that Barca already have Jordi Alba and Lucas Digne to cover at left back. Equally, Matic is a good player but hardly a worthy Busquets backup.
Azpilicueta is one player who Chelsea fans would hate to lose, and he could make a huge difference at Barcelona given his tenacity and versatility.
To be honest, at this stage it seems more likely that Fernandez was just in town to check out the legendary atmosphere at the London Stadium.
